Transition to MyIntealth

MyIntealth Frequently Asked Questions

About MyIntealth

What is MyIntealth, and why is it important?
MyIntealth is an important first step in creating a single, integrated cloud-based platform to serve international medical graduates (IMGs), partner institutions, and other key customers. It will provide centralized access to services, a single applicant user account, better user experience, and a foundation to grow the platform to support our services.

When will MyIntealth launch?
We’re targeting August 14 to take our legacy systems offline to begin the transition to MyIntealth. The launch timing has been carefully chosen with our customers and partners in mind, representing an optimal window for our organization. This date falls after the critical July 1 U.S. residency program start date, positions us well ahead of the next Match cycle that intensifies in September, and occurs during a period of lower transaction volumes to facilitate a smoother transition.

Will there be any interruption to services during the MyIntealth launch?
Yes, we anticipate a 4-6 day pause in our online services as we take our legacy systems offline and transition to MyIntealth. During this period, we will be focused on securely transferring data, testing services, and launching the new application. Be assured, we are taking every possible step to minimize downtime and ensure a smooth transition. See Pause in Services for more information.

Is Intealth increasing fees in 2025?
No, the total cost of ECFMG Certification services will remain unchanged in 2025. Only the exam fee will be adjusted to match the USMLE program fees. With the launch of MyIntealth and as part of the transition, we are making adjustments to how fees related to ECFMG Certification are structured and presented. We are realigning our fee structure to create greater transparency and better match the timing of when fees are charged with when services are delivered. To learn more information about the fee allocation adjustments, see the Fee Structure Updates FAQs.

Fee Structure Updates

Why are we reallocating applicant fees?
As part of the transition to MyIntealth, how applicant fees are allocated will be adjusted to ensure the fees charged better align to the services provided and the timing of when they are provided. This realignment reflects our commitment to transparency and our ongoing efforts to enhance the certification experience for applicants. The updated structure will make it easier for applicants to understand the certification process and associated costs.

Are fees increasing?
While the total cost of ECFMG Certification is not changing for 2025, the timing of when fees are charged is being adjusted to better align each fee with the specific service when it is provided. Only the exam fee will be adjusted to match the USMLE program fees.

How will fees be reallocated?
Historically, ECFMG Certification service fees were bundled with USMLE registration fees. With the launch of MyIntealth, these fees will be separated so applicants can see clearly and transparently where and how fees are applied for ECFMG Certification services. The goal is to make the fee structure more transparent to applicants.

  • MyIntealth Account Establishment. This $100 fee will cover the establishment of the applicant’s MyIntealth account, review of identity documentation, and evaluation of the completed identification form. If an applicant has already used any Intealth services, the applicant’s existing account information will be automatically transferred to MyIntealth prior to launch, including merging multiple accounts into one new account. Applicants who meet our identity verification requirements will not have to complete the MyIntealth account establishment process. Applicants who do not meet our current identity verification requirements will be required to complete the MyIntealth Account Establishment process, which includes identity verification, to access certain services.
  • Credential Verification. ECFMG’s fee for credential verification is $100 per credential. ECFMG Certification includes evaluation of medical education credentials, including Final Medical School Diploma and Transcript by ECFMG. This also includes primary-source verification of medical education credentials with the issuing institution. Today, the credential verification fee is bundled with USMLE registration fees. With MyIntealth, applicants will see a separate credential verification fee at the time they upload their credential(s) as part of the Application for ECFMG Certification. Please note: This future fee does not include any translation fees or verification fees charged by the medical school to verify applicant documents to ECFMG.
  • Application for ECFMG Certification. Today, the $160 Application for ECFMG Certification fee covers 1) the cost of an initial assessment of the eligibility of an international medical student or graduate for ECFMG Certification and 2) the fee for online notarization of the Certification of Identification Form (CIF), and 3) evaluation of the completed identification form. With MyIntealth, many ECFMG services bundled with USMLE registration will shift and be reallocated to the Application for ECFMG Certification, bringing the fee to $560. The $560 fee covers some of the same services as the previous $160 fee and additional certification-related services. The $560 fee covers:
    • Assessment of ECFMG Certification eligibility
    • Assessment of eligibility to take USMLE
    • Verification of information and documentation submitted with application
    • Reassessment of eligibility throughout the certification and examination processes
    • Monitoring records as requirements for ECFMG Certification are met
    • Issuance and courier shipment of ECFMG Certificate once requirements are met

Review the detailed breakdown of how fees will be allocated once MyIntealth launches here.

When will the fee reallocation take place?
Regarding timing, this adjustment will occur in coordination with the launch of MyIntealth. For more information about the MyIntealth launch, visit the MyIntealth Transition page.

Why is the Application for ECFMG Certification cost changing?
Historically, many ECFMG Certification-related service fees were bundled with USMLE registration fees. With MyIntealth, ECFMG Certification fees will be separate from USMLE registration. This separation will help applicants see exactly how fees are applied for each service. Shifting certification-related service fees from USMLE registration to the Application for ECFMG Certification provides greater transparency to applicants and better aligns the fees to the service, while keeping the total cost of ECFMG Certification the same in 2025. Only the exam fee will be adjusted to match the USMLE program fees.

If an applicant is registered for an exam and would like to cancel, can they receive a refund?
Applicants pursuing ECFMG Certification should carefully consider the timing of USMLE applications, eligibility periods, and test dates. Once registered for USMLE Step 1 or Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK), applicants cannot cancel their registration. Applicants who do not take the exam within their eligibility period will not receive a refund or credit for their exam fee(s), and they will be required to reapply, including payment of all applicable fees, if they wish to take the exam.

Although applicants cannot cancel their registration, there are options that provide registered applicants with flexibility. All registered applicants may change their scheduled test date and/or center, subject to availability. Applicants registered for Step 1 and Step 2 CK may request an extension of their eligibility periods. Applicants registered for Step 1 and Step 2 CK also may request to change their testing region.

What happens if an applicant is registered for examination, but their credentials are in progress at the time of the transition to MyIntealth? Will they be required to resubmit their credentials and pay the fee for credential verification?
This depends on the applicant’s situation. If an applicant completed their Application for Certification on or after January 1, 2019, and their medical education credentials are “in process” at the time of the transition (e.g. sent for verification), their credentials will be migrated as “in process” and they will not need to resubmit their credentials for verification or pay the credential verification fee.

For applicants who originally submitted their Application for Certification prior to January 1, 2019, and whose credentials are not yet complete, they will be required to resubmit their credentials. Whether they are required to pay the credential verification fee will depend on a variety of factors, including whether they have previously been registered for two or more examination fees. Additionally, there may also be instances where the applicant is required to resubmit their credentials due to transfer credits, regardless of when their Application for Certification was submitted.

If an applicant’s credentials have been verified through another ECFMG service, do they need to pay the credentials verification fee?
Yes. When an applicant applies for ECFMG Certification, they will be required to submit their credentials and pay the credential verification fee along with any other fees associated with ECFMG Certification (e.g. the Application for ECFMG Certification fee). If the applicant’s credentials have been previously verified through another ECFMG service, Intealth may be able to use that verification to complete the request. If this is the case, the applicant will receive a refund for the credential verification fee that was paid. If the applicant’s previous verification cannot be used to complete the request, the applicant’s credentials will be sent for verification, and the fee will not be refunded.

What happens to the fee if the application is rejected?
If an application or request is rejected or canceled, Intealth may issue a full or partial refund, depending on the specific service. Refunds apply only to select services and are issued after payment is received and the request is processed. For eligible services, refunds are automatically processed using the original payment method, minus any applicable processing fees. These fees reflect the time and effort involved in reviewing and processing the application or request. The amount retained and whether a refund is available varies by service and may change at any time without notice.

Are fees changing for EPIC services?
While the total fee for EPIC services is not changing, when the fees are applied is changing. Today, there is a $130 fee to establish an applicant’s EPIC Portfolio. When MyIntealth launches, $100 of that fee will be applied toward the establishment of a MyIntealth account, while the other $30 will be applied to creation of the EPIC Portfolio. Applicants who created an EPIC account prior to the transition to MyIntealth but do not have a valid EPIC Identification Form (EIF) when MyIntealth launches, will have their EPIC Portfolio established in MyIntealth, but will be required to complete the MyIntealth Account Establishment process, to access that portfolio. If the applicant’s EPIC account was established on or after January 12, 2018, they will be provided with $100 credit for the Account Establishment fee in MyIntealth.

Applicants who have a valid EIF will have a MyIntealth account established as part of the transition and will be able to access their EPIC Portfolio, upload credentials, and request reports. MyIntealth will serve as the single, unified platform for applicants where they will have one username and log-in to access all their Intealth-related resources.

Are there any other fee- or payment-related updates happening with the launch of MyIntealth?
Yes, there will be updates to Intealth’s payment methods and policy when MyIntealth launches:

  • Applicants will use MyIntealth to pay for all services and to track all financial transactions.
  • Available payment methods are debit from a U.S. bank account and credit card. Intealth will no longer accept paper checks, bank drafts, and money orders. Intealth’s institutional customers may have contracts with different terms, including forms of payment accepted.
  • The maximum amount that applicants can have in their financial account in MyIntealth at any time is $5,000.00.
  • Refunds for fees paid by credit card will be processed automatically upon rejection or cancellation of applicable services.

The updated payment policy will publish when MyIntealth launches.

Are Pathways fees increasing?
No, there is no change to Pathways fees with the launch of MyIntealth.

Will existing credit balances carry over with the launch of MyIntealth?
Yes, all credits will be carried over when MyIntealth launches and can be applied toward exams and other eligible services. Applicants with a positive balance must follow the same steps as all existing applicants to claim their account in MyIntealth. Once logged in, the carried-over credit will appear as an available balance. When applying for a new service, a message will appear in the shopping cart indicating that the balance can be applied toward the purchase.
