As previously announced, in April ECFMG launched its Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials (EPICSM). Today, after six months of operations, EPIC is raising the world’s standard for the verification of physician credentials.
For physicians, EPIC is a powerful new way to build a digital career portfolio of pre-verified credentials related to their medical education, training, and registration/licensure—a portfolio that they can establish in preparation for pursuing career opportunities. For the first time, EPIC brings ECFMG’s world-class verification services directly to physicians. Physicians who use EPIC decide which credentials to add to their portfolio and where and when to send credentials and reports verifying their authenticity.
For physicians who have already had credentials verified by ECFMG, EPIC offers special benefits. If your credentials have been primary-source verified by ECFMG for the purpose of ECFMG Certification or through the ECFMG International Credentials Services (EICS), ECFMG will add those credentials and their verifications to your EPIC portfolio at no cost.
EPIC offers the world’s hospitals, medical registration/licensure agencies, medical schools, and graduate medical education programs the opportunity to incorporate primary-source verification—a best practice and the best protection against fraudulent credentials—into the process for evaluating their physician applicants. Any organization can receive EPIC reports verifying the authenticity of a physician’s credential―at no cost to the organization.
As ECFMG’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Emmanuel G. Cassimatis, M.D., noted, “Physicians are called upon to demonstrate their qualifications throughout their careers. Verification of the authenticity of their credentials by ECFMG makes a strong statement, and is just one of the ways that ECFMG is serving the world’s physicians. At the same time, by assisting members of the international medical and regulatory communities in their missions to protect the public, EPIC exemplifies ECFMG’s commitment to promote quality health care, and is raising the bar worldwide for evaluating the qualifications of physicians.”
