Visa Appointment Pause Lifted and J-1 Physicians Prioritized

The U.S. Department of State has lifted the pause on new visa appointments—and has directed U.S. embassies and consulates to prioritize J-1 physicians for visa interview scheduling. This means that embassies can now resume booking visa appointments and have been asked to give priority to physicians applying for the J-1 visa for educational exchange.

Intealth has notified physicians of this welcome development and encourages them to check with the U.S. embassy or consulate where they plan to apply for their visa and to schedule their interviews as soon as possible.

Training program liaisons, program directors, and Designated Institutional Officials at U.S. training institutions also have been notified about the positive development.

This U.S. Department of State action comes at a critical time and will help ensure that international medical graduates can begin their residency training this July.
