ECFMG Establishes Grants Program for Students Participating in GEMx—Applications Accepted Beginning July 1

ECFMG is pleased to announce that it has established a new grants program in conjunction with its Global Education in Medicine Exchange (GEMxSM) program. Through the GEMx Student Exchange Grants, ECFMG will offer financial awards of US$1,000 to up to two qualifying students from each GEMx Partner—medical schools and other institutions that participate in GEMx. Students can use these grants for travel, lodging, and incidental expenses associated with participating in an elective offered through GEMx. ECFMG will accept grant applications beginning July 1, 2015 for electives that begin in 2016.

ECFMG established the GEMx Student Exchange Grants to help Partner Institutions and their students take full advantage of all that GEMx has to offer. The grants will provide support for students who otherwise might not be able to participate in an elective exchange opportunity. For Partners, ECFMG is pleased to add the grants program to the benefits of membership in the GEMx partnership. ECFMG looks forward to administering the grants program in conjunction with its GEMx Partner Institutions, which will identify and nominate their students for the grants. For more information on GEMx Student Exchange Grants, including eligibility requirements, visit the GEMx Student Exchange Grants page on the GEMx website. Partner Institutions can obtain the application packet by sending e-mail to info@gemxelectives.org.

ECFMG’s GEMx program is a global partnership for exchange in medical education. GEMx Partners are medical schools and other institutions around the world that share a commitment to making international exchange a part of their medical education programs. GEMx connects these institutions to form a community that works to improve global education in medicine by offering medical students increased access to exchange opportunities in medical education. To learn more, visit the GEMx website at www.gemxelectives.org. Institutions interested in joining GEMx should send e-mail to info@gemxelectives.org.
