Journeys in Medicine is an initiative of the Intealth Exchange Visitor Sponsorship Program (EVSP).
Intealth is designated by the U.S. Department of State as a BridgeUSA sponsor for exchange visitor physicians on J-1 visas. Exchange visitor (J-1) physicians are foreign national physicians who are enrolled in accredited programs of graduate medical education or training in the United States. Intealth is the sole sponsor of J-1 physicians in clinical training programs.
During their time in the United States, in addition to strengthening their clinical skills, J-1 physicians engage in cross-cultural activities. Through these activities, J-1 physicians learn about American culture and share their home culture with their host communities. Following their sponsorship, J-1 physicians return to their home country, bringing with them improved clinical skills and a broader global perspective. Journeys in Medicine provides a forum for current and former J-1 physicians, and their host institutions, to share their experiences. We hope that these stories inspire our readers and provide tools for others involved in graduate medical education or training.
Journeys in Medicine would not be possible without the written submissions of our contributing authors. If you would like to be considered as a contributing author to Journeys in Medicine, please complete the Journeys in Medicine Interest Form or send an e-mail to [email protected]. We are interested in stories from current or alumni J-1 physicians, TPLs, or someone who works with or has been impacted by someone in the graduate medical education or training of a J-1 physician.
Journeys in Medicine publishes first-person reflections from J-1 physicians and others in graduate medical education. The views expressed are those of the individual authors and do not necessarily reflect those of Intealth or its divisions, EVSP, or the authors’ training programs or employers.
