Graduate Medical Education Leaders Update and Expand Resources for Transitioning to Residency and Beyond

Transition in a Time of Disruption: Practical Guidance to Support the Move from Undergraduate Medical Education to Graduate Medical Education

As a new academic year for U.S. graduate medical education (GME) approaches, ECFMG, a member of Intealth, has collaborated with other leaders in U.S. GME to update a key resource for incoming residents and their residency programs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The revised edition of Transition in a Time of Disruption: Practical Guidance to Support Learners in the Transition to Graduate Medical Education provides support for the delivery of high-quality patient care while also supporting the well-being, professional development, and equitable treatment of all incoming residents.

“The COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt the education and training of physicians, and both learners and teachers have shown remarkable resilience,” said William W. Pinsky, MD, CEO of Intealth and President of ECFMG. “It is our obligation to continue to support them with the latest available information and guidance and to address the unique challenges of international medical graduates entering U.S. training.”

This resource is part of the Transitions in Medical Education series, which also includes toolkits on the transition from residency to fellowship and from residency/fellowship to practice.

The toolkits are not requirements and are meant to help guide learners and programs. They include review questions, recommended activities, and resources, and cover topics such as well-being, assessment, future planning, and much more.
