{"id":5508,"date":"2026-01-05T13:04:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T18:04:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ecfmg.org\/news\/?p=5508"},"modified":"2026-01-05T13:04:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T18:04:14","slug":"reminder-phase-one-of-usmle-service-transition-launching-january-12-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ecfmg.org\/news\/2026\/01\/05\/reminder-phase-one-of-usmle-service-transition-launching-january-12-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Reminder: Phase One of USMLE Service Transition Launching January 12, 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On January 12, 2026, United States Medical Licensing Examination\u00ae (USMLE\u00ae) services currently provided to students and graduates of international medical schools (IMGs) by ECFMG\u00ae, a division of Intealth\u00ae, will transition to USMLE co-sponsor the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB). Once phase one of the USMLE Service Transition is complete, all USMLE Step exam services for IMGs, including exam registration, score report delivery, and USMLE customer service, will be managed by FSMB.<\/p>\n<p>ECFMG will continue to provide USMLE services to IMGs for Step 1 and Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK) through January 7, 2026. Effective January 8, 2026, IMGs will no longer be able to access any USMLE services in ECFMG\u2019s MyIntealth<sup>TM<\/sup> portal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT:<\/strong>\u202fWhile this change is being implemented, <a href=\"https:\/\/usmle.fsmb.org\/?_ga=2.102027841.1554860172.1763481053-464857573.1707857833\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FSMB\u2019s USMLE portal<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myintealth.app\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ECFMG\u2019s MyIntealth portal<\/a> will be temporarily unavailable starting on January 8, 2026. During this period, examinees will be unable to access their accounts or create new accounts. <strong>Examinees testing during this time should download their scheduling permits by January 7, 2026.<\/strong> Examinees are not allowed to test without a scheduling permit.<\/p>\n<p>On January 12, 2026, the USMLE program will announce when the transition is complete and FSMB\u2019s USMLE portal is available again. ECFMG will announce when the MyIntealth portal becomes available again.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that after the USMLE Service Transition:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ECFMG will continue to manage the ECFMG Certification process.<\/li>\n<li>ECFMG will continue to determine whether IMGs are eligible for ECFMG Certification, and eligibility for certification will continue to be a core requirement for IMGs to take USMLE. This means that, as part of the USMLE registration process for each Step exam, FSMB will confirm with ECFMG that examinees are eligible for ECFMG Certification.<\/li>\n<li>ECFMG will continue to require IMGs to pass USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK to meet the medical science examination requirement for ECFMG Certification. There are no changes to the requirements for ECFMG Certification as a result of this transition.<\/li>\n<li>The USMLE program will share exam outcomes with ECFMG directly as scores become available.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmle.org\/usmle-service-transition-launching-january-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">As previously announced<\/a>, the USMLE Service Transition simplifies\u00a0the examinee journey and creates\u00a0a more consistent and efficient process for examinees. To do this, all USMLE services\u00a0will be combined under the USMLE co-sponsors, FSMB and NBME, in two phases in January\u00a02026.\u00a0In phase one,\u00a0FSMB will begin managing all\u00a0USMLE Step exam services for IMGs.
