{"id":3830,"date":"2020-06-30T15:44:53","date_gmt":"2020-06-30T19:44:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ecfmg.org\/news\/?p=3830"},"modified":"2020-06-30T15:44:53","modified_gmt":"2020-06-30T19:44:53","slug":"covid-19-update-for-the-usmle-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ecfmg.org\/news\/2020\/06\/30\/covid-19-update-for-the-usmle-program\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 Update for the USMLE Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Delayed Change to USMLE Attempt Limit Policy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In February 2020, the United States Medical Licensing Examination<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> (USMLE<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>) program <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmle.org\/attemptlimit.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> a reduction in the allowable number of exam attempts on each Step or Step Component from six to four that would go into effect no earlier than January 1, 2021. <strong>Due to the reduced testing capacity caused by COVID-19 (Coronavirus), the USMLE program is delaying the implementation of this policy change to no earlier than July 1, 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) Refunds<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last week, NBME and ECFMG sent e-mails to examinees who were registered to take Step 2 CS and were unable to test due to suspension of the exam. These e-mails included information about the refund process and timeline.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prometric<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As the USMLE program continues its plans to <a href=\"https:\/\/covid.usmle.org\/announcements\/preparations-event-testing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">expand USMLE testing<\/a>, Prometric states that their testing capacity continues to increase as well. Since May 1, more than 21,000 USMLE examinees have tested.
