{"id":1453,"date":"2015-02-13T12:49:15","date_gmt":"2015-02-13T12:49:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ecfmg.org\/news\/?p=1453"},"modified":"2015-02-13T12:49:15","modified_gmt":"2015-02-13T12:49:15","slug":"process-recognition-medical-school-accrediting-agencies-now-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ecfmg.org\/news\/2015\/02\/13\/process-recognition-medical-school-accrediting-agencies-now-available\/","title":{"rendered":"Process for Recognition of Medical School Accrediting Agencies Now Available"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Accrediting agencies are encouraged to apply now to prepare for ECFMG\u2019s 2023 accreditation requirement<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In September 2010, ECFMG announced that, effective in 2023, physicians applying for ECFMG Certification will be required to graduate from a medical school that has been appropriately accredited. Since that announcement, a process for recognizing the agencies that accredit medical schools has been developed. This process will allow medical schools accredited by recognized agencies, and their graduates, to meet ECFMG\u2019s accreditation requirement.<\/p>\n<p>As announced in ECFMG\u2019s March 2013 update, the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), in collaboration with the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>), has developed a Programme for Recognition of Accrediting Agencies. This Programme is the culmination of a pilot launched in 2011 by WFME and FAIMER to develop a meaningful process for evaluating and recognizing accrediting agencies using globally accepted criteria.<\/p>\n<p>Detailed information, including an explanation of the process and the required application forms, is available at the WFME website at <a href=\"http:\/\/wfme.org\/accreditation\/accrediting-accreditors\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/wfme.org\/accreditation\/accrediting-accreditors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since WFME\u2019s Programme became available, several accrediting agencies have applied for and been granted recognition by WFME through this process. These agencies include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Medical Education Programs (Turkey)<\/li>\n<li>Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP)<\/li>\n<li>Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME, USA) and the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information on agencies recognized by WFME, refer to the WFME website at <a href=\"http:\/\/wfme.org\/accreditation\/accrediting-accreditors\/recognition-process\/87-8-recognition-of-accreditation-agencies-agencies-that-are-recognised\/file\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/wfme.org\/accreditation\/accrediting-accreditors\/recognition-process\/87-8-recognition-of-accreditation-agencies-agencies-that-are-recognised\/file<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With the 2023 effective date approaching, ECFMG encourages all agencies that accredit medical schools to visit the WFME website, review the available information, and take action to allow medical schools and their graduates to be in compliance by the deadline.<\/p>\n<p>Questions regarding WFME\u2019s recognition process may be e-mailed to WFME at <a href=\"mailto:accreditation@wfme.org\">accreditation@wfme.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Accrediting agencies, medical schools, and international medical graduates should monitor the ECFMG website at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecfmg.org\/accreditation\">www.ecfmg.org\/accreditation<\/a> for updates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Accrediting agencies are encouraged to apply now to prepare for ECFMG\u2019s 2023 accreditation requirement In September 2010, ECFMG announced that, effective in 2023, physicians applying for ECFMG Certification will be required to graduate from a medical school that has been appropriately accredited.
