ERAS Support Services for Applicants

ERAS 2018 Repeat Applicants

If you participated in the ERAS 2017 season and also participate in the ERAS 2018 season, ECFMG considers you to be a Repeat Applicant. You will be identified as a Repeat Applicant automatically at the time you make an ERAS 2018 Token request via OASIS or the MyECFMG mobile app. Your status as a Repeat Applicant will not appear to programs in MyERAS.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You are a Repeat Applicant for the ERAS 2018 season only if you participated in ERAS 2017; applicants from prior ERAS seasons will not be identified as Repeat Applicants. Additionally, identification as a Repeat Applicant does not apply to residents in training who plan to apply for fellowship programs.

Repeat Applicants are not required to resubmit:

  • Medical Student Performance Evaluations (MSPEs)
  • Medical school transcripts
  • Photographs
  • Postgraduate Training Authorization Letters (PTALs)
  • Letters of recommendation (LoRs) that were transmitted to the ERAS application during ERAS 2017

IMPORTANT NOTE: Only those LoRs that were transmitted to your ERAS application during ERAS 2017 will be available for reuse for ERAS 2018. If you submitted an LoR but did not confirm the LoR in MyERAS during ERAS 2017, that LoR was not transmitted to your ERAS application and will not be available for reuse for ERAS 2018. To use that letter for ERAS 2018, resubmit it to ERAS Support Services.

Within five business days from the time you use your Token to register at the MyERAS website, ERAS Support Services will upload your stored MSPE, medical school transcript, and photograph to the ERAS 2018 application. If you submitted a PTAL, you must first indicate in the Additional Documents section of MyERAS that you are using a PTAL before it can be transferred to your ERAS 2018 application. To reuse LoRs, you must select them for reuse in OASIS or MyECFMG and add and confirm for upload your LoR Authors for the reused letter(s) in MyERAS. See instructions below for reusing your LoRs.

If there have been changes to the content of your MSPE, medical school transcript, PTAL, or LoR, and you would like to submit the modified document(s), submit the document(s) to ERAS Support Services at ECFMG. See Submission At-a-Glance for an overview of the available methods of submitting supporting documents. Once your modified documents have been received at ECFMG, they will be transmitted to your ERAS application, replacing last season’s document(s).

If you would like to submit a new photograph, you must submit a digital photograph using the MyECFMG mobile app or ECFMG’s OASIS. This will automatically replace the previously submitted photograph.

For detailed instructions on submitting supporting documents, see the Supporting Documents page and the detailed pages for each document type.

Guide to Reusing Letters of Recommendation (LoRs)

After you have completed your request for an ERAS 2018 Token through OASIS or MyECFMG, you will be presented with a link to a list of the LoRs that were transmitted to the ERAS application during ERAS 2017. In order to reuse an LoR for ERAS 2018, you must select the LoR from this list and then save your selections. If you choose not to make your LoR selections at the time of your Token request, you can return to OASIS or MyECFMG at a later date to make your selections.

The reuse of LoRs is optional. It is especially helpful for applicants who waived their rights to see an LoR and, therefore, do not have the letter. You do not need to resubmit an LoR unless the content of that letter has changed.

ERAS Support Services will upload your reused LoRs to ERAS within five business days from the time that you add and confirm for upload your LoR Authors in MyERAS, as outlined in the process below.

Instructions for Reusing Letters of Recommendation

Before reusing your LoRs, carefully read the following instructions:

  1. Request your Residency Token using ECFMG’s OASIS or MyECFMG and use your Token to register at AAMC’s MyERAS website.
  2. In OASIS or MyECFMG, visit the List of LoRs from Previous Year link. Select those LoRs that you wish to reuse and save your selections.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Once you have saved your LoR selections you will not be able to make any changes to the list. If you choose not to use an LoR you have selected, simply do not assign it to a program. If you choose to reuse an LoR that you did not select, you will need to resubmit the LoR.
  3. Once you have selected which LoRs you wish to reuse, access MyERAS and go to the Documents section. Under the Letters of Recommendation section, add and confirm for upload your LoR Authors, as instructed. The letter writer information will not automatically appear on this page. You must manually enter the information. The corresponding LoRs will be processed by ERAS Support Services at ECFMG to your ERAS application within five business days from the time you confirm for upload your LoR authors in MyERAS.
  4. Monitor the status of your LoRs in the Letters of Recommendation section of MyERAS.
