Deadline for 2006 USMLE™ Applications

If you are applying for a USMLE examination, refer to the following guidelines for completing your 2006 application in time for it to be processed. All dates are tentative and subject to change. You should monitor this website for updates.

For Step 1 and Step 2 CK

The last 2006 eligibility period for Step 1 and Step 2 CK is October 2006 - December 2006. The deadline for ECFMG's receipt of complete applications for this eligibility period is August 31, 2006.

To apply on-line using ECFMG's Interactive Web Application (IWA) for the October 2006 - December 2006 eligibility period, you should submit the on-line portion of the application as soon as possible. To complete your 2006 application, your completed Certification Statement (Form 183) or Certification of Identification Form (Form 186) must be received at ECFMG no later than August 31, 2006. Please note that this deadline may be earlier than the deadline indicated in the Instructions for the Certification Statement or Certification of Identification Form and in correspondence you may receive from ECFMG. When the 2007 USMLE application materials become available through IWA, you will no longer be able to work on the on-line portion of an application for the October 2006 - December 2006 eligibility period. This transition is likely to occur in late August 2006.

If you submit a paper Step 1/Step 2 CK application for the October 2006 - December 2006 eligibility period, your application must be received by ECFMG no later than August 31, 2006.

If your 2006 Step 1 / Step 2 CK application is received after August 31, 2006, it will be rejected, and you will be required to reapply using the 2007 application materials. If your 2006 application is rejected, any payment received with your 2006 application will be credited to your ECFMG financial account. The first eligibility period for which you can apply using the 2007 materials is the November 2006 - January 2007 eligibility period.

For Step 2 CS

Applicants who are registered for Step 2 CS are assigned a twelve-month eligibility period that begins on the date that their registration information is entered into the Step 2 CS scheduling system. Typically, this is the same date that the registration process is completed.

If you use IWA and submit the on-line portion of the Step 2 CS application before the transition to the 2007 application materials, your completed Certification Statement (Form 183) or Certification of Identification Form (Form 186) must be received at ECFMG no later than August 31, 2006 to complete your 2006 application. Please note that this deadline may be earlier than the deadline indicated in the Instructions for the Certification Statement or Certification of Identification Form and in correspondence you may receive from ECFMG.

If you submit a paper 2006 application for Step 2 CS, it must be received at ECFMG no later than August 31, 2006.

If your 2006 Step 2 CS application is received at ECFMG after August 31, 2006, it will be rejected, and you will be required to reapply using the 2007 application materials. In this case, your Step 2 CS eligibility period will be assigned, as described above, after you submit a 2007 application and the registration process for your 2007 application is complete. If your 2006 application is rejected, any payment received with your 2006 application will be credited to your ECFMG financial account.
