ERAS Support Services for Letter Writers

The Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), developed by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), allows medical school students and graduates to apply electronically for first- and second-year (PGY-1 and PGY-2) residency positions in U.S. programs of graduate medical education (GME). ECFMG serves as the designated Dean’s office for all international medical students/graduates (IMGs) who use ERAS. As the designated Dean’s office, ECFMG assists IMGs throughout the ERAS application process.

ERAS Support Services at ECFMG issues each applicant an ERAS Token, which allows the applicant to access the AAMC MyERAS website to complete his/her residency application. ERAS Support Services also receives the applicant’s supporting documents and transmits them to the ERAS PostOffice, where they can be downloaded by the residency programs to which the applicant has applied.

Letters of recommendation (LoRs) are one type of document that can be submitted in support of an individual’s ERAS residency application. This section of the ERAS Support Services website is designed to provide letter writers with information and assistance in submitting LoRs on behalf of ERAS applicants.

The ECFMG ERAS Letter Writer Portal (LWP) provides letter writers with the ability to electronically submit LoRs directly to ERAS Support Services at ECFMG on behalf of an applicant. In order for a letter writer to upload an LoR through LWP, the applicant must send an electronic request to the letter writer using ECFMG’s On-line Applicant Status and Information System (OASIS).
