ERAS Support Services for Applicants

ERAS 2013 Repeat Applicants

If you participated in the ERAS 2012 season and also participate in the ERAS 2013 season, ECFMG considers you to be a Repeat Applicant. You will be identified as a Repeat Applicant automatically at the time you make an ERAS 2013 Token request via OASIS.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You are a Repeat Applicant for the ERAS 2013 season only if you participated in ERAS 2012; applicants from prior ERAS seasons will not be identified as Repeat Applicants. Additionally, identification as a Repeat Applicant does not apply to residents in training who plan to apply for fellowship programs.

Repeat Applicants are not required to resubmit:

  • Medical Student Performance Evaluations (MSPEs)
  • medical school transcripts
  • photographs
  • letters of recommendation (LoRs) that were transmitted to the ERAS PostOffice during ERAS 2012

IMPORTANT NOTE: Only those LoRs that were transmitted to the ERAS PostOffice during ERAS 2012 will be available for reuse for ERAS 2013. If you submitted an LoR but did not reserve a slot for the LoR in MyERAS during ERAS 2012, that LoR was not transmitted to the ERAS PostOffice and will not be available for reuse for ERAS 2013. To use that letter for ERAS 2013, resubmit it to ERAS Support Services.

Within one to two business days of the time you use your Token to register at the MyERAS website, ERAS Support Services will upload your stored MSPE, medical school transcript, and photograph to the ERAS 2013 PostOffice. LoRs you select for reuse in OASIS will be uploaded to the ERAS PostOffice within one to two business days from the time that you finalize your LoR authors for the reused letter in MyERAS. See instructions below for reusing your LoRs.

You will be able to track receipt of these documents via OASIS.

If there have been changes to the content of your MSPE, medical school transcript, or LoR, and you would like to submit the modified document(s), submit the document(s) to ERAS Support Services at ECFMG. Once your modified documents have been received at ECFMG, they will be transmitted to the ERAS PostOffice, replacing last season’s document(s).

If you would like to submit a new photograph, you must submit a digital photograph using ECFMG’s OASIS. This will automatically replace the previously submitted photograph.

For complete instructions on submitting supporting documents, see the Supporting Documents page and the detailed pages for each document type.

NEW FOR ERAS 2013: ERAS Support Services expanded ECFMG’s OASIS to allow ERAS 2013 applicants to electronically submit several document types in support of their residency application, including Medical Student Performance Evaluations (MSPEs), medical school transcripts, photographs, Postgraduate Training Authorization Letter (PTAL) or “California Letter”, and letters of recommendation (LoRs) if you have not waived your right to view them. If you will be submitting updated/modified supporting documents, see Submission At-a-Glance for an overview of the available methods of submitting ERAS documents.

Please note that ERAS Support Services discontinued the Return of Document Service (RODS) at the close of the ERAS 2012 season. Documents submitted to ERAS Support Services at ECFMG for the ERAS 2013 application season will not be eligible for return.

Guide to Reusing Letters of Recommendation

After you have completed your request for an ERAS 2013 Token through OASIS, you will be presented with a link to a list of the LoRs that were transmitted to the ERAS PostOffice during ERAS 2012. In order to reuse an LoR for ERAS 2013, you must select the LoR from this list and then save your selections. If you choose not to make your LoR selections at the time of your Token request, you can return to OASIS at a later date to make your selections.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Once you have saved your LoR selections in OASIS, you will not be able to make any changes to the list. If you choose not to use an LoR you have selected, simply do not assign it to a program. If you choose to use an LoR that you did not select, you will need to resubmit it to ERAS Support Services.

The reuse of LoRs is optional. It is especially helpful for applicants who waived their right to see an LoR. You do not need to resubmit an LoR unless the content of that letter has changed.

All LoRs selected for reuse will be listed on the Verify Receipt of ERAS Documents page of ECFMG’s OASIS after you have registered using your Token at MyERAS. ERAS Support Services will upload your LoRs to the ERAS PostOffice within one to two business days from the time that you finalize your LoR Authors for the reused letter in MyERAS, as outlined in the process below.

Reusing Letters of Recommendation

Before reusing your LoRs, carefully read the following instructions:

  1. Request your Residency Token.
  2. Select those LoRs that you wish to reuse from the ERAS 2012 season and save your selections.

  3. Use your Token to register at MyERAS.
  4. Once registered, allow one to two business days for the LoRs you selected from ERAS 2012 to be transferred to your ERAS 2013 applicant record.
  5. Go to the ERAS Support Services page in ECFMG’s OASIS and click on “Verify Receipt of Documents.” You will be able to view the letter writer information for those LoRs that you have selected to reuse.
  6. Once you have identified which LoRs you wish to reuse, access MyERAS and go to the “Documents” section. Under the “Letter of Recommendation” tab, finalize your LoR Authors, as instructed.
  7. The next business day, ERAS Support Services will receive your letter writer list electronically. The corresponding LoRs will be attached to your ERAS record and uploaded to the ERAS PostOffice.
  8. Monitor the status of your ERAS application through the Applicant Document Tracking System (ADTS), which you can access from MyERAS.
