ECFMG International Credentials Services (EICS)

EICS Applications

EICS credentials verification is an application-based process utilized by medical regulatory authorities. If you have questions regarding your application, please contact your medical regulatory authority.

Important Note: Physicians applying to the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) must contact the MCC for credential submission instructions.

International physicians applying to Namibia, Norway, and South Africa are now required to use ECFMG’s Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials (EPICSM) to have required medical credentials primary-source verified. EPIC replaces the EICS process for this purpose. Please see the Important Notes below for more information.

Namibia

Important Note for International Physicians Applying to the Health Professions Councils of Namibia

Effective September 1, 2016, the Health Professions Councils of Namibia (HPCNA) require physicians applying for registration who completed their medical education outside of Namibia to use EPIC to have medical credentials required by the HPCNA primary-source verified. Use of EPIC replaces the EICS paper application process. EPIC’s web-based process provides the HPCNA with the same primary-source verification of medical credentials that they received through EICS, while also offering physicians advantages not available through EICS.

New applicants to the HPCNA who completed their medical education outside of Namibia are now required to establish an EPIC Account, if they do not already have one, and upload the required credentials to EPIC for verification. Applicants who submitted their credentials for primary-source verification through EICS prior to September 1, 2016, may continue through the EICS process until either their credentials are verified or attempts to have their credentials verified have been exhausted.

The HPCNA and ECFMG are pleased to be working together to use EPIC for primary-source verification of medical credentials. EPIC is an innovative, on-line service that physicians can use throughout their careers. Through EPIC, physicians can build a digital career portfolio of the primary-source verified credentials related to their medical education, training, and registration/licensure. They can then use EPIC to request that reports verifying the authenticity of their credentials be provided to any organization in the world, including medical regulatory authorities and potential employers, such as hospitals and academic institutions.

For instructions on using EPIC to obtain verification of your medical credentials in support of an application to the HPCNA, visit http://www.ecfmgepic.org/instructions-namibia.html.

Norway

Important Note for International Physicians Applying to the Helsedirektoratet (Norwegian Directorate of Health)

Effective September 1, 2016, the Norwegian Directorate of Health requires physicians applying for registration who completed their medical education outside of Norway to use EPIC to have their final medical diploma and final medical school transcript primary-source verified. Use of EPIC replaces the EICS paper application process. EPIC’s web-based process provides the Directorate with the same primary-source verification of medical credentials that it received through EICS, while also offering physicians advantages not available through EICS.

New applicants to the Directorate who completed their medical education outside of Norway are now required to establish an EPIC Account, if they do not already have one, and upload the required credentials to EPIC for verification. Applicants who submitted their credentials for primary-source verification through EICS prior to September 1, 2016, may continue through the EICS process until either their credentials are verified or attempts to have their credentials verified have been exhausted.

The Directorate and ECFMG are pleased to be working together to use EPIC for primary-source verification of medical education credentials. EPIC is an innovative, on-line service that physicians can use throughout their careers. Through EPIC, physicians can build a digital career portfolio of the primary-source verified credentials related to their medical education, training, and registration/licensure. Use of EPIC replaces the EICS paper application process. EPIC’s web-based process provides HPCSA with the same primary-source verification of medical credentials that it received through EICS, while also offering physicians advantages not available through EICS.

New applicants to HPCSA who obtained their basic medical qualification outside of South Africa are now required to establish an EPIC account, if they do not already have one, and upload their credentials to EPIC for verification. Applicants who submitted their credentials for primary-source verification through EICS prior to August 1, 2016, may continue through the EICS process until either their credentials are verified or attempts to have their credentials verified have been exhausted.
