Electronic Credentials Verification

ECFMG’s electronic Credentials Verification is free for medical schools and makes the process of verifying credentials faster, easier, and more efficient! Through this program, authorized medical school officials can verify the credentials of their school’s graduates over the Internet rather than using the traditional paper-based process. For example, schools can use electronic Credentials Verification to verify the credentials of their graduates who apply for ECFMG Certification and for the United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®), eliminating the need to complete “Verification of Medical Education” Form 327-A.

Proven time savings
The time savings with electronic credentials verification compared to the paper-based verification process is dramatic. The comparison below shows the median response times by medical schools to ECFMG verification requests.

  • Medical school diplomas
  • Medical school transcripts
  • Alternate graduation documents

Learn more
Electronic Credentials Verification is free for medical schools and offered through the secure ECFMG Medical School Web Portal (EMSWP). Medical school officials who want to learn more can access our one-page overview.

Please note that even if your medical school already participates in EMSWP for one of our other programs, such as the Status Verification program, a separate registration is required to participate in the electronic Credentials Verification program.
